Setting the scene: Housing is the primary function of each city that forms more than 70% of its urban structure. However, it is not only a [physical] structure but also an experience of space; experience that is both personal and collective and deeply rooted in cultural and archetypes of dwelling. Although the residential building typology – in its structure, program and experimentation – has shown the highest degree of resistance to change, it inevitably transforms in accordance with new social phenomena and time-space relationships. Actual lifestyles of frequent migration and use of modern technologies have changed the perception of a dwelling as a place of personal [identification] and as a shared [emotional] experience. In that context, traditional typologies and patterns of housing require re-examination considering highly dynamic environments, smart technologies and trends in sustainable design. Competition is tackling the challenge of re:housing; it explores the new approaches and transformative identification processes on the scale of dwelling, as an individual space, and of a neighbourhood, as a collective space. It is expected from competition entries to offer innovative solutions and models of housing that would rethink traditional values and forthcoming trends. Selected competition entries will be exhibited during the Days of Architecture Banjaluka 2019. The exhibition aims to raise new questions, to provoke or encourage discussion and critical thinking, to give an insight into diversity and culture of housing. and to stress the importance of dealing with it.
